Items sought for Haiti relief
Clear Spring Elementary School is collecting donations for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
During the week of Feb. 8 to 12, the school will be collecting personal care items, such as washcloths, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, Band-Aids, blankets, etc. There will be a collection site set up in the front of the school.
Roast beef dinner planned Saturday
Don't forget that Park Head United Methodist Church of Big Pool will host a hot roast beef sandwich dinner to benefit Haiti relief Saturday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. or until sold out. The dinner will be held in the fellowship building behind the church on U.S. 40.
The menu includes hot roast beef sandwich, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and corn, applesauce, dessert and drink. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $4 for those ages 4 to 10. Those 3 and younger will be admitted free.
Proceeds go to Haiti relief through United Methodist Commission on Relief (UMCOR).
Did you know?
Did you know that Big Pool at one time had an ice house bigger than the present day Clear Spring High School?
Before the days of refrigeration, teams of men and horses would cut chunks of ice off at Big Pool and store them under sawdust (insulation). The ice would then be loaded onto train cars and shipped out.
