Dinner planned

Park Head United Methodist Church in Big Pool will host a hot roast beef sandwich dinner to benefit Haiti relief Saturday, Feb. 6, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. (or until sold out). The dinner will be in the Fellowship Building behind the church on U.S. 40.

The menu includes hot roast beef sandwich, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and corn, applesauce, dessert and drink. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $4 for those ages 4 to 10. Those 3 and younger eat free.

Proceeds will go to Haiti relief through United Methodist Commission on Relief.

Dessert bingo

Clear Spring Elementary PTA will hold a dessert bingo Friday, starting at 7 p.m. Each family attending will be asked to bring a dessert to be given as a prize for winning bingo.

Geography bee

Clear Spring Elementary School's fourth- and fifth-graders participated in a geography bee Jan. 14. There were 10 participants who qualified for the school bee by taking a preliminary geography test.

The students had to answer questions about U.S. geography, and world geography questions were added in the final rounds. The runner-up was Nicola Al Sahouri and the winner was Garrett Embly. Garrett will take a qualifying test for regional competition.

Softball signup

The Washington County Girls Softball League will hold registration Saturday, Saturday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods at the Centre at Hagerstown.

Registration will also be held at Extra Innings on Friday, Feb. 19, from 5 to 8 p.m.; and Saturday, Feb. 20 and Sunday, Feb. 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The registration fee is $40 with an additional fundraising fee of $40 for raffle tickets. The fee for the raffle tickets will be reimbursed if the tickets are sold.

Rules clinic

There will be a District 1 Little League rules clinic for managers, coaches and anyone interested in becoming an umpire. The class is free and will be held at the Church of Christ in Leitersburg on Tuesdays in February, starting at 6 p.m.
